Photography has been part of my life for many years, but Hawaiʻi has always been at the heart of what I photograph.

I grew up in Kāneʻohe on Oʻahu, the son of a Hawaiian, Chinese, and Caucasian father and a German mother. In 1966, my family moved to Pukalani, Maui, where I have called home ever since.

My life has taken me along many paths. I served in the U.S. Air Force, earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Counseling, and spent my professional career helping students as Director of the Counseling Department at Maui Community College before retiring.

For 25 years, my wife and I also shared another passion—we performed Hawaiian music as a part-time duo at venues throughout Maui. From small gatherings to some of the island’s most familiar places, music gave us a wonderful opportunity to meet people, share in the community, and experience Maui in a very personal way.

Through it all, photography has remained a constant. Today, my camera takes me from Maui’s landscapes and native forests to the people, culture, and moments that make these islands special. I’m drawn to images that tell a story and capture a sense of place.

My work also takes me beyond Hawaiʻi, where travel offers new landscapes, people, and perspectives to explore. But wherever I’m photographing, my goal is simple: to create images that invite you to pause, look a little closer, and experience the moment with me.
